International Success of the National Equestrian Group "Galkynysh" Recognized
On February 1, the city of Arkadag hosted a grand celebration in honor of the victory of the National Equestrian Games Group "Galkynysh" from the Akhal-Teke Equestrian Complex of the President of Turkmenistan at the 47th International Circus Festival in Monte Carlo, Principality of Monaco.
During the visit of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, to Monaco, the "Galkynysh" group successfully performed at the festival, earning the Gold Award and several special prizes. This achievement stands as a testament to the efforts of Hero-Arkadag and the wise leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov in elevating Turkmenistan's national circus arts to the global stage.
The "Galkynysh" group plays a significant role in the development of the country's circus arts. Established in 2007 at the initiative of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Hero-Arkadag, the group has gained international recognition.
Performing across various countries, the group has earned numerous prestigious international awards, including the Grand Prix at the 2013 World Circus Festival "IDOL" in Moscow (Russian Federation), the XVI International Circus Festival in 2014 in Latina (Italy), the II International Circus Arts Festival in 2015 in the People's Republic of China, the II World Nomad Games in 2016 in Cholpon-Ata (Kyrgyz Republic), and the 1st International Circus Arts Festival on the Fontanka in 2018 in St. Petersburg (Russian Federation), where it received the Golden Gaetano statuette.
The festivities began in the central square of Arkadag, in front of the "Akhan" monument, featuring musical performances by national artists.
From there, members of the "Galkynysh" group proceeded along Akhan and Aba Annayev Avenues toward the Gorogly State Equestrian Circus in Arkadag, led by riders bearing the national flag of Turkmenistan and the flag of the United Nations.
Arkadag, the first "smart city" in the region, was founded at the initiative of the National Leader of the Turkmen people and is being developed under the leadership of the President of Turkmenistan in the picturesque foothills of the Kopetdag Mountains. The city's remarkable achievements in sustainable development, environmental innovations, and modern urban planning are recognized by more than 20 international certifications and awards.
The city's architectural design harmoniously integrates national traditions with contemporary urban planning and design principles. Particular attention is given to the depiction of "celestial" horses in decorative elements.
The Akhal-Teke monument of Akhan, erected in the "smart city," symbolizes the swift and ambitious development of Arkadag.
The success of the Akhal-Teke horse Akhan, trained under the guidance of Hero-Arkadag, has further solidified the global prestige of this unique breed. Akhan, owned by the Akhal-Teke Equestrian Complex of the President of Turkmenistan, holds a Guinness World Record for covering a 10-meter distance on his hind legs in just 4.19 seconds—twice as fast as the previous record. This achievement reflects the deep knowledge and expertise in equestrian training within Turkmenistan.
Hero-Arkadag gifted Akhan to the "Galkynysh" group in 2009, opening new horizons for his success. As a part of the group, Akhan has played a key role in securing top honors at international festivals.
Today, large-scale efforts are underway to preserve, study, and promote the rich cultural heritage of the Turkmen people, including the breeding, training, and care of "celestial" steeds. Akhal-Teke horses, a national and global treasure, have become a symbol of the remarkable achievements of Turkmenistan, an independent and neutral state.
Horse breeding, requiring perseverance, expertise, love, and skill, has been a revered craft among Turkmen ancestors. The creation of the distinguished Akhal-Teke breed stands as a testament to their dedication.
Turkmenistan honors the legacy of master horse breeders and national selectors who have significantly contributed to the fame and refinement of Akhal-Teke horses. Among them is Aba Annayev, a distinguished master in the field, known for breeding and nurturing elite horses. In recognition of his contributions, a major avenue in Arkadag and the city's International Academy of Horse Breeding have been named in his honor, reflecting profound respect for skilled and dedicated horse breeders.
Throughout the celebratory procession, residents, institutional employees, and students of Arkadag warmly greeted the members of "Galkynysh." Musical performances enhanced the festive atmosphere.
Upon reaching the square in front of the Gorogly State Equestrian Circus, the group was welcomed by esteemed elders and equestrian masters who congratulated them on their remarkable achievements.
The Gorogly State Equestrian Circus is a notable architectural landmark of Arkadag. Its horseshoe-shaped building is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities meeting global standards. With a seating capacity of 1,500 spectators, it has become one of the most popular venues among locals and visitors alike.
Here, musical performances by renowned national artists further enriched the celebrations.
Notably, the latest edition of the "Arkadag" newspaper, published under the patronage of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, featured a special issue dedicated to the triumphant achievement of "Galkynysh," serving as a tribute to its readers.
The event was attended by the Chairperson of the Mejlis, members of the Government, heads of military and law enforcement agencies, the Chief of Staff of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, governors of provinces, the mayors of Ashgabat and Arkadag, the Chairperson of the State Committee for the Construction of Arkadag City under the President of Turkmenistan, as well as leaders of ministries and agencies, representatives of public organizations, ambassadors and heads of international organizations accredited in Turkmenistan, and business delegates from the Republic of Korea.
At the opening ceremony, members of the "Galkynysh" group were invited to the stage.
At the 47th International Circus Festival in Monte Carlo, this distinguished group won the Grand Prize, along with the Young Jury Award, the Italian Circus Prize, the Audience Choice Award, the Indian Circus Prize, and an official certificate of recognition.
Participants then listened to a congratulatory address by the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Hero-Arkadag, delivered during a meeting with the group at the Nice International Airport (French Republic).
Addressing the group, Hero-Arkadag emphasized that Turkmenistan is actively expanding its cultural dialogue with nations worldwide, including Monaco, and is undertaking significant efforts to develop its national equestrian sports.
The participation of "Galkynysh" in the International Circus Festival in Monte Carlo has instilled great pride in the Turkmen people. The "paradise" horses, which have always been loyal companions of the nation, symbolize the dynamic progress of the homeland, stated Hero-Arkadag.
As noted, the wise proverbs of the ancestors—"A horse is a goal" and "If I have a horse, I have wings"—reflect the deep reverence of the Turkmen people for their "celestial" steeds. Under the leadership of Arkadagly Hero Serdar, extensive efforts are being made to further enhance the global fame of Akhal-Teke horses and increase their population.
